EA compatibility
MT4 EA uses MQL4; MT5 EA uses MQL5 and the files are not interchangeable. Only desktop terminals host EAs. If personal power/connectivity is unreliable, a VPS can help availability but does not remove broker/server, strategy or monitoring risk.
Required guards
- Unique client/order identifier.
- One-position and exposure limits.
- Spread, slippage and stale-tick rejection.
- Maximum requests per interval.
- Daily/weekly equity stop.
- Persistent state and restart reconciliation.
- Alert when logs or connection fail.
Cost-realistic testing
Use variable spread by session, both commission sides, swap/admin fee, conversion, latency and adverse slippage. Randomize costs and execution sequence; if modest changes remove the edge, do not deploy.
Incident runbook
- Stop new submissions.
- Read server positions/orders/history.
- Compare with persisted local state.
- Resolve duplicates/orphans under cash-risk limit.
- Save logs and ticket IDs.
- Resume only after root cause and replay test.
